The Wines
Kurrajong Vineyard
Until mid-2014 we had two small vineyard location in the Pokolbin area. We grew
a wide variety of grapes, so our portfolio is a little unusual – we specialise in
Rosés, and unique Red blends. We do all the winegrowing, winemaking, bottling,
labelling, packing and selling ourselves.
Rosés
Perhaps because rosés are typically sweet in Australia, it an undervalued style.
Rosés can be enjoyed with most ethnic foods, and with all the light and fresh
dishes that make up so much of today’s cuisine. We prefer dry, savoury French
Rosés, so that is the style we make. We made a Merlot Rosé first, and it is a dry
wine that brings back to us memories of floating down the tree-lined canals of
Southern France. In 2013 we added a Cabernet Rosé, with a more complex
structure. In 2014 we added a Shiraz Rosé, with a fuller body and nose. All our
rosés are ideally paired with salads and seafood.
Classic and Premium Wines
With our classic and premium wines we make the traditional Hunter varieties:
Semillon, Chardonnay, Verdelho, Merlot and Shiraz. We aim to capture the terroir
of the Hunter Valley – its unique soil and climate. From our oldest block of vines in
Belford we make our Belford Semillon. Growing in sandy soil next to Jump Up
Creek, these old vines produce a lean Semillon with exceptional ageing potential.
From the blocks in Pokolbin we produced our award-winning Soma Semillon and
Verdelho, as well as our Chardonnay, Merlot and Shiraz.
Premium-Reserve Wines
Our unique premium-reserve wines are each named after a poem by an Australian
pioneer bush-poet. The series includes: a very traditional French blend of Cab-
Sauv/Cab-Franc/Merlot/Petit Verdot in the Bordeaux style; an Italian-inspired
blend of Barbera-Shiraz; a Spanish-inspired blend of Tempranillo-Shiraz, and an
aged Semillon made in a Croatian style.
